The default appearance of our store locator has evolved a number of times over the years since it's original release in 2014 and now in 2022 it has a distinctly different default style as you might expect from the changes seen to web design over this period.
For example, buttons have changed from commonly being rounded and shaded elements that indicated a sense of 3-dimensions as shown below. These buttons commonly showed a 'pressed' state when clicked on which gave a further sense of 3-dimensions:
The most significant change was to the flat state of Google's Material Design which originated in 2014 and formally eschewed skeuomorphic design in favour of flat, modern stylised designs such as those shown below:
Our locator now shows a more modern, minimal look by default which align with current trends away from the Material Design look to a more elegant layout which is both responsive, easy to use and navigate but aligns more seamlessly with modern web page designs and themes from platforms such as Squarespace, Shopify and Wordpress.
Of course, it's not just buttons that have changed: scroll buttons and scrollbars, shading, chroming, outlines, bordering, fonts, font sizes, capitalisation and many other small changes combine together to give any web page or element on a web page a modern look and feel. You can now switch between the major theme changes that have been made to our locator from your admin console on the Themes page which you can find here: https://www.storelocatorwidgets.com/admin/Appearance/Themes.
