Which Google Maps APIs need to be enabled

Support > Mapping Services > Which Google Maps APIs need to be enabled

If you have chosen Google Maps as your mapping service provider, you'll need to ensure that the Google Maps APIs that are needed for our locator to function are enabled, otherwise, you'll see some error messages in your locator.

The following services are required to be enabled. To check or enable them, please visit each of the links below then click on the button at the top to Enable each service:

  1. Maps API - so the map can be displayed: https://console.developers.google.com/apis/library/maps-backend.googleapis.com
  2. The Places API - this is for the address autocompletion in the search bar. If you created your Google Maps API key after 1st March 2025 then you should enable Places API (New) here: https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/library/places.googleapis.com. If you have an older key then you should also enable the Legacy Places API here: https://console.developers.google.com/apis/library/places-backend.googleapis.com
  3. Directions API - to allow directions to work: https://console.developers.google.com/apis/library/directions-backend.googleapis.com/
  4. Geocoding API - so that when you click on the 'My Location' button it shows the address that was found: https://console.developers.google.com/apis/library/geocoding-backend.googleapis.com
